Dunboyne AC offers its condolences to the family of Derek Conroy

Dunboyne AC would like to offer their condolences on the death of Derek Conroy to his wife, Wendy, to his son and daughter, to his parents Judy and Sean, his brothers, sisters and the extended Conroy family.

Derek was a member of Dunboyne since he was 9 years of age winning Juvenile medals at Cross Country and Track & Field in Meath, Leinsters and National All Ireland’s. Derek continued his running career as a senior and brought his success as a Juvenile into senior competitions again winning at Cross Country, Track & Field and also on the roads.

A time to remember for the whole Conroy family was when Derek ran for Dunboyne AC in the All Ireland championships. Derek won gold in the 800m and the same weekend Alan won the 400m and their father Sean won the Masters sprints in Belfast. Truly this was a magic moment for the Conroy family and one that will never be forgotten by the club.

Due to athletics injuries Derek had to retire earlier than planned but always supported Dunboyne AC as he was an avid follower and supporter all his life of Athletics and Dunboyne AC.

Club Captain Tommy McDonnell said: “Derek was always a credit to his family and an avid Athletics fan and athlete and a great ambassador to Dunboyne AC over the years. He will be sadly missed and remembered as a successful Juvenile and Senior Athlete by his comrades in Dunboyne Athletic Club”.

***Dunboyne Athletic club members please meet on Monday  12.30pm at Kilcloon cemetery entrance to form a guard of honour for Derek.***
