Fit for Life at the Frank Duffy 10 Mile

The Frank Duffy 10 Mile race has been a popular event in the Fit for Life calendar and this year was no exception. Early on in the summer a record number of members decided to take on this distance. Some had run this race before, but for the majority it would be their first long distance race. Under the guidance of Alan and Mick, and with the support of the group they increased the miles and embraced the challenge.

Unlike last year we were gifted a perfect morning. There was a mixture of nerves and excitement as everyone gathered at the start line. Under 2 hours later there was elation and pride among the group, delighted to have completed this distance. First home for Fit for Life was Jackie Brannigan with a new PB for a 10 mile course. Sam Hamilton added another PB to her collection this year. Lisa Stewart joined C25K at the beginning of the year and ran the race with C25K mentor turned pacer Claire Clifford. Ailish Cashin also had her own pacer, husband Dónal for company. Dan and Michelle Higgins also took on the distance together. Another couple who crossed the line together were Jennifer and Kevin Clancy. Having completed his race Kevin kept Jennifer company for the last stretch. And. As with every race, the support of family friends and fellow club members was greatly appreciated and reassuring en route.

This is a wonderful achievement for everyone who ran, but particularly those who swore they would never go beyond 10K. Congratulations to everyone and remember the half marathon is just another 3 miles… just sayin’!
