Gold for Dunboyne Women and Men at the Trim 10 Mile Sunday 5th February

Dunboyne AC are always delighted to support fellow Meath club Trim AC’s annual 10 Mile event and this year we were out in force with great numbers of club members participating. This event also served as the Meath 10 Mile 2017 Championship with club athletes from the county chasing individual and team honours and Dunboyne AC were right up there where it mattered.

The fine weather made for good racing conditions and pacers were provided as the race started in waves.  The course was a large loop around country roads with some inclines along the way.  There were water stations at 4 and 7 miles and the race was well stewarded throughout.

Dunboyne AC athletes were well to the fore throughout the race with Rory Kavanagh and Alan Kenny crossing the line in 11th and 12th position overall in 55:45 and 56:10 respectively.  They were also the first 2 Meath athletes home in the county Championship so well done lads. Donal Cashin wasn’t far behind these with his strong 58:15 run which placed him 1th in his category in the Meath Championship.   Rob Hale meanwhile ran a fantastic 68:24 to grab 3rd position in the Meath Championship in his category.  The men weren’t finished yet, however, as Dunboyne AC won gold in the team event with Rory Kavanagh, Alan Kenny and Donal Cashin plus a crucial 62:45 run from Stephen Devlin proving too strong for the home team, Trim AC, who finished second and Dunshaughlin AC who came third.

Women’s Captain Emilia Dan was first Dunboyne AC female across the line in 65:37 winning the Meath Championship in the process, with the consistent Jane Bandila next for Dunboyne running an impressive 66:43 making it another Dunboyne AC 1-2 in the Meath Championship. Clodagh Dunphy was 3rd Dunboyne woman home in 68:51, finishing a very strong 11th in her category and a very unlucky 4th in the Meath Championship competition.  With Fit 4 Life athlete Jackie Brannigan running a very strong 81:36 it was no surprise to see that the performance of all 4 women delivered a comfortable gold for Dunboyne AC in the Meath Championship Team competition again from Trim and Dunshaughlin, ensuring the men didn’t take all the glory on the day. A special mention for Fit 4 Life athlete Lauren Flood who was second in the Meath Championship in her category.  Great running,

Well done to all Dunboyne AC athletes and teams who took part today and congratulations on the Meath Championship medals and on the very impressive runs from so many of our athletes.

Lots of photos to follow, check back later!
