Jog for Jockeys 5K, Curragh Racecourse, Sunday 21st August

For the second year running, it was a two-horse race over the Jog for Jockeys 5K course at the Curragh, following in the hoof-prints of famous racehorses Nijinsky, Shergar and Harzand. All proceeds of the event were in aid of Irish Injured Jockeys.

Such is his belief in this great cause, Martin Geoghegan was out the day after his excellent outing at the Frank Duffy 10 miler. We can only assume he thoroughly enjoyed last year’s outing. He sensibly declined the 10K option and saddled up for the 5K, clocking an excellent 25.36 to finish 83rd overall. Well done Martin, impressive stuff!

But not nearly as impressive as the odds-on favourite, representing the juvenile section of the club, Ross Galileo Lyons, who won second prize in the hotly contested Under 12 section of the race, in a staggering time of 20.07, a mere 20 seconds from the winner. This was good enough to place him 14th in the race overall. Champion stuff Ross, very well done.

Martin highly recommends this as a great event; ideal for fun-runners and contenders alike. No doubt the Rossmeister is chomping at the bit for next year already.
