Leinster Juvenile Cross Country

Leinster Juvenile Cross Country

Dunboyne AC provided 5 teams for the extremely well supported (and dare we say it, brilliantly organised) Leinster Cross Country relays at the Cow Park on Sun 14th January. It was a pleasant day with decent underfoot conditions.

The Under 12 Girls (4 x 250m) team was made up of Li An Grogan, Sadhbh Pitt, Amy O’Reilly and Hannah Brown and they all battled well throughout in this high class field. They finished outside the medals this time but can be proud of their performance. Well done girls.

The Under 12 Boys team (4 x 250m), consisting of Andrew Norman, Jack Doyle, Cian Doyle and Dylan Ryan were well in the mix throughout and battled all the way to the line finishing in 4th place, narrowly missing out on a medal. This was a very good performance from the team especially considering 2 of the team will be under age again next year. Good job lads.

The Under 14’s had the longer 500m to run on each leg and our U14 Girls were the club stars on the day. Super runs from Sophie Dolan, Elizabeth Comerford, Aleah Kelly and Kate Gormley delivered a fantastic Leinster Silver medal after they ran the winners incredibly close in what was probably the race of the day. Well done girls on what was a great team performance.

The Under 14 boys were always up against it with 3 of the 4 running up out of their age group but as usual they just they got on with the job at hand and mixed it against the best the province had to offer in this age group over each 500m leg The team of Mathieu Kieffer, John Brown, Ciaran McCormack and Jack Doyle (filling in and running his second race of the day, thanks Jack) ran a determined race to finish a very respectable 5th place. Well done lads.

Our under 16 girls team, with all members moving up out of their proper age group, were our last relay team to compete on the day in another 4 x 500 event. Aoife McCormack, Rachel Norman, Holly Conlon and Kayla Ryan all dug deep to deliver a very strong team run, narrowly missing out on a medal and finishing in 4th place. Well done girls on what was a difficult assignment but you can be very proud of how you performed.
Well done to all the juveniles who ran and to all the parents who came out to support and assist.
