Leinster Secondary Schools Track and Field Championship

The Leinster Schools Track and Field Championship took place at Morton Stadium, Santry on the 17th of May 2017.
Dunboyne AC had athletes in action in a variety of school colours from as near as Saint Peters, Dunboyne and Castleknock CC to as far as Belvedere College and Maynooth CC all from the Fit for Life stable.
In the Minor age group both Marc Leane and Doireann Ni Fhlatharta were in action in the 800m. An out of sorts Doireann had to dig deep to come away with a bronze, as Marc who is concentrating on sprints at the moment had a respectable 7th place finish. Abigail Knox was unlucky not to medal with minor High Jump with her 1m 40cm jump just 5cm off a place on the podium. Last of the youngster in action was Aoife McCormack who was in action in the 1100m race put in a decent outing fighting the pain barrier after a recent injury.
In the Junior age group both Kate Reilly and Tadhg O Muircheartaigh were on field event duty. Kate’s new found talent in the triple jump came to the fore as a new pb saw her take silver to add to impressive 2017 collection.Tadhg was his usual calm and collective self as he out threw his opposition by some distance as he went on to stand on the top step of the podium, another athlete who has excelled this calendar year.
We had two long term members in action in the under 16 events, namely Bonnie McFeat and Victoria Knox. Vicky had a powerful start and led most of the 200m race before having to settle for bronze in a blanket finish, one of those races where the podium positions were decided by inches. In the mile Bonnie continued with her recent fine form as she stayed with the pack in a very talented field. Also in this age group was  Philip Thornton  who had a long wait for the final field event of the day as he contested the Shot Putt, just one of those days for Philip as he just threw short of qualifying for Nationals.
Well done all and best of luck to our Senior athletes on Saturday.
