Liffey Valley AC’s Tom Brennan Memorial 5km Road Race, Phoenix Park, 1st January 2016
Whilst the majority of our road runners were taking on the rescheduled 2 mile handicap on New Years Day, four of our members took to the Phoenix Park for the hugely popular Tom Brennan Memorial 5km. The race takes place around two laps of Furze Rd, Ordnance Survey Rd. and Chesterfield Ave., a flat course but competitors had quite a breeze to contend with. The race attracted a decent field of over 700 entries.
Morgan McDonagh raced last at the Kildare Open 5k on the 20th December and posted a time of 17:58 on Friday. Sean Kinnane was also coming off the back of a recent 5k, the Jingle Bells. The Christmas break hasn’t done him any harm, Sean finished 3rd in his competitive category, clocking a 19:04. Alan Doyle ran a 21:59, three seconds faster than his outing in the Shane Brennan 5k which took place in Longford before Christmas. David Dolan was flying the flag for our 8pm group, and looks to have a good bit of speed back in his legs following his marathon debut in October. David posted a time of 24:32.
Well done to all! Full results are on myrunresults.com and pics, as nearly always, are on Peter Mooney’s Flickr account. Thanks to the Mooneys for another excellent set of photographs.
