National Juvenile Indoors Day 1 & 2

National Juvenile Indoors Day 1 & 2
Day 1
Back to Athlone for the National Indoor Relays for our Wonderful U/13 Girls. This was an added bonus after finishing 4th in the Leinsters and being put through to the finals because of the withdrawal of Cushinstown. With Cushinstown out, who won with ease at Leinster,  heads were up on all teams as it was anyones race to win.
Our Girls took on additional practice in NIA during the week and enjoyed being back on the indoor track with their friend – a Baton. On the day itself it requires absolutely everything to go 100% as practised. there is zero room for error at the National Finals and unfortunately due to a poor Baton change, it saw our girls slightly out of contention. The girls finished in a time of 59.06, not their best time of the season but there is still loads of potential and I suspect we will see this team back again for the Meat h& Leinster Relays in the upcoming weeks.
U/13 Girls – Relay 4 X 100
Aideen Reilly
Sinead Magee
Aleah Kelly
Emma Timmons
U/18 Boys – Shot Putt
Jack Nyhan managed to qualify for National after approaching the Leinsters with a slight illness.
With limited training Jack took on the Shot Putt on the biggest indoor stage in Ireland U/18 buys Shot Putt. Jack did well but after a few foul throws this saw him exit the competition but can hold his head up high gaining valuable expirience after the steep learning curve. Nothing his coach cant fix and we look forward with excitement on seeing Jack progress into the outdoor season.
Day 2
It was the turn of the sprinters and field specialists on Day 2 of the National Indoor Championships and as with every national event, the comppetition was fierce.  All the athlets competing had quallified froim their own provincial championships and Dunboyne AC has 3 talented athletes on show, all of whom excelled at Leinster level to make it to these national finals.
Jed Collins was first up in the U/12 Boys 60M.  Jed was unlucky to be drawn in a tough heat which proved to be the fastest one of the day.  A stumble coming out of the blocks put paid to his chance of progressing, but this talented all round athlete will be back competing at the business end of provincial and national competitions over the coming seasons.
Aideen Reilly was next up in the U/13 Girls 60M.  Like Jed, she was out of luck to be drawn in a particularly loaded heat, with the eventual Gold and Bronze medalists in wiith her. The heat was lightening fast, again the fastest of the day, and Aideen battled hard to just miss out on qualification to the national final. Aideen has her All Ireland Long Jump final to look forward to next weekend such is her talent to reach national finals in two events.  No doubt she will be back competing at the top end of the field at provincial and national level throughout this summer and beyond.
Our other athlete on show in Athlone at these National Championships was the multi talented Thomas Thornton in the U/18 Long Jump competition.  The standard at this level was extremely high and Thomas equiped himself really well to make it through to the final.  A consistent set of good jumps resulted in a 7th place finish for Thomas.  7th place in the national championships is a great achievement and he should be proud of his performance.
Well done to all our athletes who wore the Dunboyne AC singlet with distinction over the weekend.
