National Masters Track & Field Championships

Dunboyne AC displayed the Blue & White with pride at the National Masters Track and Field Championships at Tullamore on Saturday 18th August 2018.

Roisin Bell won her first Gold of the day in the 100M for the third year running in a time of 13.70 seconds, and Helen Lonergan came away with a well-earned Silver in 33.80 seconds. Excellent times also for Adele Breen, Rosemary Higgins, FionaTobin and Angela Walsh.

In the field we had Gold in the Javelin (M50) for Denis Delaney with a 46.74 metre throw, which was in fact the second longest throw of the day all round. In the discus (M65+) Pat Newham came away with Silver with a throw of 28.04 metres, another improvement in distance from Pat with more to come.

Back on the track the 200 metres were next up with Marie Tobin putting on a fine chase to win Silver in her category in a new PB – a superb time of 28.36 seconds (watch your back Roisin Bell!).

A 200m PB also for Roisin Bell who took Gold in her category (W45), setting a new Irish W45 record 28.48s in the process.

Next up was Helen Lonergan with another fine Silver medal winning performance (33.80s), and excellent times from Angela Walsh and Rosemary Higgins. An injury in the 100 kept Adele Breen from competing in the 200 metres unfortunately.

In the 400 meters Dunboyne’s sole Men’s track athlete on the day Michael Cornyn raced well to take 4th position (64.04 seconds). Back with the women Helen Lonergan took her third medal of the day, this time Gold, as she steamed through the distance in 77.31 seconds finishing no less than 30 meters ahead of her nearest rival. Marie Tobin showed off her talent with style as she completed the one lap distance in a new PB time of 63.99 seconds, a fantastic performance and enough to win Silver. In the 800 metres Michael Cornyn came away with a fine Bronze (M55) with a time of 2:24.69.
