Dunboyne AC had one competitor running in Athlone at the All Ireland Indoor Junior and U23
Championships on Sunday. Niall Cornyn was taking on the classic 800m and 1,500m double
against the best the country had to offer in the U23 age group.
Despite a less than ideal preparation for the Championship which included a bad fall from his
bike last week, Niall finally decided he had recovered enough to compete on just the morning of
the event itself.
In what was his first 1,500m race in 4 years Niall dug deep as he held onto the fast pace to finish
8
th
setting a new PB by 5 seconds!
After some rest it was onto the 800m heats where Niall ran a steady and intelligent race to finish

rd
in 2.05 to automatically qualify for the final. After just a 1 hour recovery, and with the earlier 2
hard runs in the legs, Niall lined up for the final where he ran a solid and gutsy race to finish 6
th
matching his 2:05 from the semi-final.
Well done Niall on a good afternoon’s work representing Dunboyne AC at national level
