The Magnificent Seven at Meath Road Relays, Bohermeen, Tuesday 3rd May 2016

Dunboyne AC was very proudly represented by no fewer than 7 teams at the Meath Road Relays in Bohermeen on a bright and sunny Tuesday evening; 4 women’s teams and 3 men’s teams.  With 4 to a team, those of us who remember our 4-times-tables will know there were 28 of us in action and S3A can just take our word for it and stop counting on his fingers.

We’d been promised a fun and sporting evening by those who’d ventured before and the superb turnout made this a self-fulfilling prophecy, especially considering all handovers would take place outside the Community Centre, giving us an ideal opportunity to double up as supporters.

The teams practically picked themselves and very quickly our team members agreed who would lead the team out on the 800m leg, run a golden mile on the second leg, give 150% on the third one-and-a-half mile leg or anchor the team home on the final 2 mile leg.

We warmed up and headed to the starting line offering each other a curious mix of encouragement, excuses, good wishes and reassurances that enjoyment was what this was all about. Whatever the banter, each of us resolved to do our absolute best for the team; and that we certainly did as you’ll see from all the fantastic times below.

Team Siobhan Campbell, Eileen, Siobhan Carey and Aoife H were simply SEnSAtional over all 5 miles of their relay run.

John and Paul considered reforming the Beatles before settling on Garbhan and Micheal and our Fab Four did us proud.

Angela E, Clare, Deirdre and Ana very nearly reformed ACDC; either way they thundered up and down that Bohermeen road.

Lyndon, Geoff, Noel and David’s team performance was pure LeGeND; no other word for it (not with those initials anyway.)

Ciara, Angela W, Kay and Sam, sweetCAKeS that they are, made it look completely effortless.

Jim, Ray, Owen and Declan Just ROckeD all 4 stages at this gig, winning bronze Meath Championship medals in the C category.  The lads weren’t presented with their medals on the night, but they’re coming!

Heather, Aoife E, Mirela and Lauren may have looked HArMLess enough at the starting line but they proved to be deadly, winning bronze Meath Championship medals in the C category.  The ladies got their medals on the night.

Fair play to everyone who embraced club and team spirit to take part and a massive well done to all on tremendous performances all round.

Thanks to our supporters Paul, John and Ger and special thanks to Claire Clifford who, despite being under the weather, travelled down to support. She even donned running gear just in case we might be one short for a team. Thankfully we weren’t so she took these fab photos HERE.

We had held off on posting this as we were awaiting split times.  If we get them, we’ll post them later.  But rest assured, everyone was incredible on every leg.  A great club night.

Thanks and appreciation to our hosts Bohermeen AC and the Meath officials for a very well organised event and a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We’re looking forward to next year’s already.
