******Ticknock; IMRA Winter Race, Saturday 28th February******

Three runners from Dunboyne AC hit the hills on Saturday taking part in the Ticknock Winter IMRA race. Conditions were near perfect at the start line, dry, windless and chilly. All 3 athletes are preparing for the Debra Wicklow Mountains Half Marathon/10k in 2 weeks time so this race proved an excellent training opportunity. The route starts on a concrete road just at the back of Lamb Doyles Pub in Sandyford. After about 200m the road running finishes and the trails begin, bringing competitors along a lung busting 300m ascent to Three Rock in a little over 4kms. The terrain is a mix of muddy trails, fire road and rocky paths with some spectacular views over Dublin Bay. Finally its a fast descent through the woods to the finish line. Leading the trio home was Kevin Deery in a time of 39:00, placing him in the top 30. Next across the line was Owen Fletcher in a time of 42:50, although Owen was very keen to point out that he took 2 wrong turns and ended up covering an additional 600m. Following close behind and taking part in his first IMRA race was Cian Mangan in a time of 43:54. All 3 look set for some great performances on March 13th.
