Top class performances for Dunboyne AC at the National Indoor Masters Championships, 10/3/2018

The blue and white of Dunboyne was a regular sight on the podium at the national indoor masters championships in the plush surrounds of Athlone IT indoor arena on Saturday 10th March. The women’s team won the most exciting battle of the day, with Marie Tobin putting on a spectacular display of display of speed and determination making up a distance of almost 50 meters in the last leg to win silver for her team mates of Sinead Webb, Helen Lonergan and Roisin Bell.

In the individual events Michael Cornyn was a triple winner in the m55 category, taking bronze in the 200, silver in the 400 and gold in the 800. Roisin Bell did the double, winning gold in the W45 60m and gold in the 200m – breaking the national record in the process, taking almost half a second off the previous record with a time of 28.96 seconds. Jane Baldini took on the 3000m with great determination, winning silver behind Kelly Neely with an excellent time of 10.26.

Kay Gilmartin saw the rewards for a tough season of track training coming home with gold in the 400m (which some say is the toughest event of them all) and bronze in the 200m. Rosemary Higgins ran a superb race in the 60m taking away a well deserved bronze. Michelle Pilkington, not long back from injury was delighted to take bronze in the shot put. Also competing on the day were Sinead Webb who pbd in the 60 and 200m, Helen Lonergan who finished close to the medals in the 60m and with a fine run in the 200m, and Keith Eglington who ran a strong PB in the 400. Congratulations and well done to all. The last few months of tough training have paid off. Time now for a break for training begins for the outdoor season.
