We draw our breath after the Rio Rollercoaster

We draw our breath after the Rio Rollercoaster

What a journey Sara has had…

In Dunboyne we’ve followed her from Budapest to Samokov, from Beijing to Rio. At two of those major championships she won a medal, and at the other two we’d the pleasure of seeing her against the best in the World in Steeplechase finals.

Last Saturday we held our breath and hoped for the best and saw Sara take it out with the best of them before she got taken out herself. News filtered through of a successful appeal and naturally we were overjoyed, and pulled our seats up for the final.

Today she was up against the best of the best, in 34 degree heat, and ran excellently despite the conditions to run a time of 9:52, 2nd of the three Europeans in the 18 strong field.

It’s likely Sara will pause a while now, but hopefully not for too long. Next year sees the World Championships being held close by in London. Sara’s times have come down dramatically this year. The Irish record stands at 9:30, who knows what 2017 will bring in that regard.

One chapter closes, and the next will begin soon enough.

For Rio – the journey, the entertainment we’ve been provided with, the composure Sara has displayed, her performances and professionalism – we salute Sara, she’s a great ambassador.

Well done Sara, we’re very proud.
