Saint Peters College Dunboyne had a good outing in the shadows of the Pope’s Cross in the Phoenix Park for the 2018 West Leinster Secondary Schools Cross Country with the Dunboyne AC contingent playing their part.
In the Minors Girls Race Kayla Ryan got the school off to a great start as she won the race in an exciting finish with Sophie Dolan not far behind as she took bronze. In that race we had a total of nine athletes as Rachael Norman, Lucy Eglington, Kate Griffin, Ruby McFeat, Kirsten Moody Kelly joined the podium finishers as Saint Peters took Gold in the team competition. Holly Conlon and Niamh Sherlock were also team medallists with their respectful schools in the team competition.
In the Junior Girls Race Doireann Ni Fhlatharta had to settle for an individual silver as Aoife McCormack was squeezed out of the medals on the home straight. With Lorena Harrison swapping the longer spikes for the track spikes also having a good outing the girls came with a team prize also.
Our Intermediate Girls packed well with Katie Greene having Kate Reilly and Bonnie McFeat directly behind her in the finishers shoot as they all qualified as individuals for Leinster and with Sarah Magee also finishing well up the field it was no surprise that Saint Peters took a team medal.
Anna Griffin had also had a good day as she qualified for the Leinsters as an individual in the Girls senior race.
The only Fit for Life male in action was Ross Lyons who despite being hampered with a hamstring injury battled on to qualify for the Leinsters in the Junior Boys Race.
If any athlete was missed we can only apologise as with different athletes competing with schools other than Saint Peters and large fields of runners it was not easy to log all finishers.
