In Dunboyne AC, we have a large, friendly senior group, with athletes competing in middle- and long-distance road racing (5k to marathon), ultra running, cross country and mountain running. Last year we had many runners competing in the Dublin marathon. The club has runners competing at county, national and international level.

We also have athletes taking part in Javelin, Hammer, Discus, Shot Putt, 56 Pound, High Jump, Hurdles, Treble Jump, Pole Vault and Long Jump.

Running Training
Training for senior runners is on Tuesday and Thursday commencing at 7pm.

We have two excellent trainers, Phelim Glynn and Gary O’Hanlon.Phelim takes the group on a Tuesday night, and Gary on a Thursday. Training changes throughout the year, depending on the season and what members are training for. It generally consists of a tempo run or interval session. Phelim Glynn is an experienced runner having competed nationally and internationally in Track, Cross Country and Road (up to marathon distance). Coach Gary O’Hanlon works as a personal trainer and is very well known in running circles. Gary brings elements of his own training and experience into the club. The success of our coach’s approach can be seen by the number of personal bests being constantly recorded by Seniors. No doubt the future will see many more PBs for our athletes.

If you’re new, just come along to training. Warm up and then join the group at the clubhouse when the whistle blows. The trainer will explain the training format for the night.

Weekend Runs
Many members run in St. Catherine’s Park or the Phoenix Park at the weekends for more distance running. This training is not organised by the club, so chat to other members to see what millage and pace they are doing and you’ll find a group that suits.
