Dunboyne Athletic Club, founded in 1928, is affiliated to the Athletics Association of Ireland. It is in the top 5 largest clubs in the country with approx. 800 members. A large club, but one that still retains a small club feel. It’s a club that not only serves the local community; its membership reaches far beyond the parish boundaries towards Blanchardstown, Ashbourne, Kilcock and Maynooth. Links have been developed with the local schools and the wider community during an era when the demographic of the club has changed quite a bit. Our name is a good one, both locally and on an athletics stage in Ireland.

We embrace a huge cohort in Dunboyne AC under the various streams that exist in the club, whether it’s athletics, recreational racing or health and wellness. The club is very well balanced and inclusive, it has something to offer everyone. We’ve a membership from the age of 7 to 87 and all having fun, training, competing and winning too. We had a 75 year old member, John Cotter, complete the Dublin Marathon in 2013. John on reaching his 80’s has since curtailed his activity to a degree, but we have other young blood in the Septuagenarian class to prove that age is just a number.

In Dunboyne AC there are two main types of outings – running and social. Really though they’re both very social! The club organises regular nights out throughout the year with table quizzes, socials throughout the year and our annual dinner dance!

Development Club of the Year
Dunboyne Athletic Club received the Development Club of the Year 2014 award at the Athletics Ireland annual awards. The club received the recognition for a number of reasons such as facilities available, Fit4life outlets as well as achievements by those wearing the club colours at provincial and national competitions. Only one club is picked out of the 300 in the country and we were delighted to be the one chosen. Dunboyne AC was also one of a small number of clubs presented with the prestigious Club Mark by Athletics Ireland for 2014/2015. The award was presented in recognition of the Club’s commitment to excellence in club management.

Facilities

In 2019 we upgraded to a 400m all weather floodlit tartan track.

The club was in a relatively healthy position financially in 2015, and after lengthy research, a decision was made at that time to install a tartan track, with Phase 1 (cinder to tarmac) completed in 2016.

After a huge effort by all involved, the full project was completed in 2019.

It provides a top class facility for use in training and is suitable for training on all year around, having a surface that reduces stress and fatigue on the muscles, and minimises the probability of injuries and accidents.

The Four Acres (a 300 meter grass track adjacent to our main track) is being developed alongside it, broadening our options for training.

Corporate Sponsorship
At this stage of fundraising for our tartan track, we’re seeking the support of local businesses. We have put together a number of packages that we believe will persuade prospective donors to invest in our worthy cause. These packages offer local businesses an opportunity to back our club in a way that will create benefits and opportunities of unique value. Please contact us to see our range of unique value propositions. An investment in our club on your part can also be claimed as a tax relief. Any level of support you could provide would be of great assistance to our efforts in putting in place a significant sporting and community resource for Dunboyne and the surrounding environs.

Athletics
Dunboyne AC have throwing facilities, a clubhouse with changing rooms and hot showers, together with a weights and gym area, and meeting rooms. The range of running events that club athletes are involved in includes sprinting, hurdles, middle- and long-distance, road racing (5k to marathon), ultra running, cross country and mountain running. Our club has now developed as such that nearly all aspects of athletics are covered by our members. We now have athletes taking part in Javelin, Hammer, Discus, Shot Putt, 56 Pound, High Jump, Hurdles, Treble Jump, Pole Vault and Long Jump. The club has athletes competing at county, national and international level across all strands of athletics.

We cater for athletes of all ages and every ability. There are three main groups in Dunboyne AC: Juvenile, Senior (Running and Athletics) and Fit4Life. We have invested heavily in coaching personnel at all these levels. Click on the links below to read more about each group.
