Dunboyne AC volunteers and runners paint the town red at the Virgin Media Night Run 10K, Dublin City Centre, Sunday 22nd May 2016
The club was out in force on Sunday evening at the Virgin Media Night Run in the city centre. 30 of our most dedicated clubmates headed into town early to play their part in organising the race. Paul Gorey was our head steward and once he briefed the gang on setting out barriers, taping off parts of the course and directing runners, they set to it with the usual club spirit and good cheer. Our club chairperson, Teresa Smith, was among the volunteers and tells us “it was a good night, the volunteers were super and they earned €900 for the club. Please thank them all.” Thanks also on behalf of the runners who enjoyed your strong vocal support; those who got spotted anyway – not an easy task in a sea of red t-shirts.
We counted 23 runners and we suspect we’re even missing a few at that. If so, please let us know in the comments here.
Although this is rarely a race for PB’s, due to the tightly packed streets, super times were nevertheless recorded by all. Peter Brandon had the right idea; getting out in front to avoid the crowds, finishing second in the race. Good idea, if only the rest of us had thought of it!
Congrats to everyone who took part; Fit4Lifers, Seniors, our regular racers, occasional racers, those who wanted a nice long-sleeved top, one or two returning from injury, distance runners and those who haven’t covered the distance in a while. Well done to all! Very special congratulations to three of our recent joiners who made their debuts over the 10K distance; Alessandra Verri, Audrey Keane and Oriel Tiernan. Take a bow ladies; what a super achievement.
It is always a special experience for thousands of runners to claim the city centre and run the traffic-free streets at night. All our runners nabbed themselves a very nice long-sleeved red top to run in, which adds to the atmosphere and spectacle of this event. Thankfully the organisers have now realised that having the Dublin colours emblazoned on a souvenir running top can ruin a perfectly good top for most non-dubs! Nuff said!
Congratulations to all our runners and sincere thanks to all our volunteers as listed below.
