Meath Junior, Senior and Masters T&F Championships, Navan, 22nd June 2016

Dunboyne AC were well represented at the recent Meath Junior, Senior and Masters T&F Championships held in Claremont Stadium last Wednesday 22nd June and many returned with medals in their respective events and categories with some terrific times on the night. Note Masters categories were lumped in together, rather than 5 year categories as happens at Leinster and National Level.

Beginning with the men…

Joe Travers, Michael and Niall Cornyn were our male athletes competing on the night, with Joe taking on the Masters 100m, 200m and 400m. Joe was pipped by less than 0.3 of a second into 4th place in both the 100m and 200m but ran an excellent 400m to nab himself a bronze. Michael took on the 200m and 400m in the same category, and placed one place ahead of Joe in both races, nabbing himself a bronze and silver. Niall had a solo effort to a fast 2:05 time in the 800m – one imagines with a bit of competition in the race he would’ve been forced into an even faster performance.

And the ladies…who always seem to outnumber and outperform us of late!

In the Senior category we’d Sarah Faulkner in the 100m and 200m and Saoirse McGrath in the 800m. Sarah bagged herself a pair of silver medals on the night, behind Karen Dunne of Bohermeen on both occasions. Saoirse went one better and won gold in the 800m, not far off her PB time set in the Leinsters.

Our Masters ladies were out in numbers. In a strong 100m, run off on times over two heats, Roisin Bell won herself a bronze medal, with Marie Tobin placing 4th, Angela Walsh 7th, Fiona Tobin 9th, Helen Lonergan 10th, Kay Gilmartin 12th and Eileen Soraghan 13th.

In the Ladies Masters 200m the race was again run off on times over two heats, and like the 100m Roisin Bell won bronze. Marie Tobin placed 4th, Angela Walsh 6th, Fiona Tobin 7th, Helen Lonergan 8th, Kay Gilmartin 9th and Eileen Soraghan 10th.

We’d just one representative in the Masters Ladies 400m and 800m, Helen Lonergan braving the tough distance to win bronze in 1:22 in the 400m, and Ciara Devitt going one better in the 800m.

Well done to all on a fantastic performances and best of luck to all going forward to All Ireland’s.
