With the Meath County Intermediate, and Novice cross country races behind us already, the 2019 cross country season is well and truly upon us.
Most of our club cross country runners were enjoying a weekend off racing as they prepared for the Leinsters in Gowran Co Kilkenny on Saturday the 26th of October. For three club members however, the opportunity to race against some top competition on our doorstep could not be ignored.
Emilia Dan, Keith Eglington, and Phelim Glynn toed the line at the Autumn Open Cross Country, at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown. All three acquitted themselves well in the October sunshine as the best cross country runners tackled the undulating, rolling drags of the national cross country course.
Emilia and Phelim were both vying for a place on the Irish team for the upcoming ‘Home Countries’ International Masters cross country event which will take place on November 16th in Southport, England. Both succeeded in doing so, gaining automatic qualification with Phelim finishing 2nd in his age group, and Emilia finishing 3rd in hers. Congratulations to Phelim and Emilia! This is a tremendous achievement for both athletes. Great to see our club secretary Keith who does so much work behind the scenes togging out, a man who is always willing to ‘give it a lash’ as it were. Fair play to you Keith!
Onwards to Gowran.
