Caroline Reid, Sean McDonnell and Owen Fletcher, three of our most talented and dedicated adventure racers, took on Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team’s ‘Run The Line’ last weekend. The Trio are regulars at WAR, Gaelforce and other similar events where space blankets are mandatory and vaseline highly recommended. Throw in a Kayak and a bike and they’ll be there too.
RTL is a tough race to say the least. 26kms of road and trail surfaces in the Dublin/Wicklow mountains with over 1000m of elevation gain over the out and back loop. Add to that the atrocious weather conditions that arrived on the 28th; it makes for a more challenging Saturday morning than most of us had. Some of Ireland’s top international mountain runners such as Eoin Keith and Paul Tierney were there to take on the race, a sign that it’s a good one. The race also has a 13km option for those less enamoured by the option our hardy bucks chose.
Anyway, onto the performances. It mightn’t have been a day for the Dunboyne AC singlet but the lads did the blue and white proud. Owen finished 15th out of a huge field, with Sean just a little further back.
Top honours on the day go to Caroline Reid. 26kms in the mountain is a challenge but Caroline has faced worse. She made relatively light work of it and managed to PODIUM on the day! Congrats Caroline on your 3rd place!
Well done to you all!
