Club Trip to the Charleville Half Marathon, Sunday 18th September

Club Trip to the Charleville Half Marathon, Sunday 18th September

Having spoken to Tony and Gary and got the nod from them we are now hoping to gauge interest in a Club trip to Charleville, for their Half Marathon, which takes place on the 18th September. Most of you will be familiar with the event.

It is probably the best opportunity for a PB half in Ireland for those targeting a Half Marathon.

Its six weeks out from Dublin which is an ideal time for those doing the marathon to take on a Half.

Half marathon training to mid-September is the ideal run in for those targeting a x-country season.

With a trip comes four main costs, race entry, accommodation, dinner the night before and travel.

These costs are generally negotiable, based on the numbers travelling, but we’re expecting each of the costs to be about €25-€30, so roughly €110 per person for the trip. Costs will be less obviously for those who want to book their own travel, food, or for partners who would like to travel but not run etc.

Accommodation

We have been in touch with the proprietor of Ballyhoura Luxury Hostel and the property is available for the night of the 17th September. See details of the hostel here http://www.ballyhourahostel.ie/ and check out the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor. The hostel is about 10kms from Charleville. The whole thing is €1,000 to rent for 42 people, €600 for 24 (ground floor) and slightly more expensive per person, based on smaller numbers. If you’re particularly particular and don’t fancy the hostel, you can organise your own accommodation.

Race Entry

Standard race entry is reasonable €32 but we’re hoping to negotiate a price on a bulk number with the race organisers.

Dinner

This will be arranged for the evening before, possibly in the Charleville Park Hotel, which is race HQ. We can collect out race packs before dinner at the Hotel.

Travel

We’ll price a suitably sized bus once we receive an indicative figure of those who are interested. If people aren’t interested in going by bus, but still want to go, they can travel by car.

The trip is open to everyone on a first come first served basis. A €30 deposit will secure, ideally given by Thursday 14th July. We need to decide ASAP, as accommodation is not being held for us. If we haven’t enough interest, we’ll scrap the idea!

Can you please register your interest with Paul at paul.g.gannon@gmail.com, letting him know what you’re interested in, Accommodation, Race Entry, Dinner, Travel or all four.
