Colm Tierney, a 20 year old Dunboyne native, took part in his first Indoor National Championships.
Colm only took up Shot Putt last September after turning up at the club and expressing an interest in putting his natural strength to competitive use.
He has trained well over the winter months and has gotten stronger and technically better in a short time.
He competed well in his first ever competition at the Dunboyne Winter Throws last week finishing 4th overall with a new pb of 10.58m.
At the weekend, in the cauldron of the National Indoor Arena hosting its inaugural National Indoor Championships, Colm surpassed his pb by three quarters of a metre and threw a very respectable 11.31m to finish 7th out of 9 competitors.
This was a credible and fine performance acknowledged by his coach and training partners. With more hard work this young thrower should go from strength to strength.
