DAC at 37th Michael Manning Memorial “Dunshaughlin 10KM” Road Race, 18th June 2016
Once again the Dunboyne AC troops joined forces at the Dunshaughlin 10k to support our neighbouring club. This 10K is a fixture on the racing calendars of many of our athletes and this year again none were left unimpressed by the quality of this excellent event.
Peter Somba had a hard earned victory as he was pushed right to the limit by DSD’s Brandon Hargreaves, but prevailed with a sprint finish, finishing off with an excellent run in a time of 29:43. The current course record is 29:16. Gerry O’Reilly put a time of 35:13 to his name, an improvement of over a minute on his 2015 time, placing 7th in a competitive category. Sean Kinnane showed signs of regaining the form he showed in years not too long gone with a time of 38:14, testament to how he’s been applying himself lately. Winner of course in her category was evergreen Emilia, picking up an envelope for her 38:58 run.
John O’Malley had a hard time clearing his starting position but looked pretty fresh faced as he made a final dash from the last corner to clock 42:11. Alan Doyle’s times have been tumbling off the back of his spring marathon, the in-form Longford man ran 43:59. There’s never much between Michael O’Baille, Paul Gorey and Ray Mitchell and so it was again on Saturday, the trio running times of 44:31, 44:55 and 45:01 respectively.
Emily was one of three of our Ryans taking on the 10k, but was the only one to leave with an envelope for an excellent 2nd placed Junior in a time of 46:42. Great present on her birthday! Happy Birthday Emily! And once again she beat her father Pat Ryan by almost one minute… she is growing up Pat, you have to let her go! Mirella Herghelegiu followed up her excellent showing in the Dunboyne BHAA 5 mile with an equally impressive 47:52.
Second Fit4Life man was Lyndon Thomas who ran an excellent 53:45 on this very tough course and got a massive PB! Ruth did a fantastic 55:24! Once the gun went off the nerves were left behind and she loved it! Aoife Hyland ran in 57:12 and shortly after her, Veronica and Angela arrived together with a time of 58:34 and 58:35 respectively. Mammy Ryan with a running time of 59:00 was delighted to see that her family were already home and cheering for her! Noel Leddy finished in 01:01:13 followed by Patricia Gallagher in 01:02:16.
Everyone enjoyed the post-mortem over the great spread afterwards – a just reward for their excellent times 🙂 Well done everyone!
