Well done to our many many club members who supported this year’s Darkness into Light annual 5K run and walk in the early hours of Saturday 7th May. It was the eighth running of this event, the highlight of the Pieta House calendar and the biggest annual fundraiser for their work in the prevention of suicide and self-harm. Some of us remember the first year or two in the Phoenix Park when the entry numbered a few hundred and sausages were barbecued for the finishers. Unimaginable now with the scale of the event! With more than 110 locations across the country, the turnout this year was estimated at over 120,000 and our members were proud to be among them. Most opted for the Phoenix Park, Fairyhouse and Maynooth and as always we found the experience of starting the run at 4.15am in darkness and crossing the line just as dawn was breaking to be moving and uplifting. This is always a special event and well worth setting the alarm for ridiculous-o-clock to share the experience. Well done all.
