June 19th: Kicking off the weekend for Dunboyne AC road runners, Joey Igoe was back in his native county on Saturday morning for the Athlone 10 mile.
Sporting the Dunboyne AC blue and white and he ran a fantastic race to finish 3rd overall in 63:44, a great time running in the warm weather.
On Saturday evening, Dunboyne AC had 24 runners in the Dunshaughlin 10k.
While it isn’t the flattest course around, it always seems to bring out the best of our runners and is the home of many a PB. For this year’s race it was very humid making for difficult running, although the frequent water stations helped a lot. Being part of the Peugeot Race Series, this 10k attracts the top club runners from around the country.
The Dunboyne crew didn’t feature at the very front of the race, but still put in a great performance with 10 runners under 40 minutes and a few age category prizes: Jane Bandila 3rd in F40, Phelim Glynn 2nd in M55 and Sean Bailey 2nd in M60.
On Sunday morning, Peter Somba continued his dominance of the Irish Life Dublin Marathon Series with a win at the Corkagh Park 5 Mile in a time of 25:34. This result came after winning the Docklands 5K on Thursday evening, a solid week for Peter!
Elsewhere on Sunday morning, Laura Buckley was 2nd woman at the Castleknock 5km in a time of 17:56. Eimear English, Joan Hodgins, Vivienne Lennon, Eimear Begley and Anne Manning also ran the race.
