DBAC Seniors – May 2023 Update

On Tuesday May 30th, we had the BHAA Dunboyne 5 Mile as our local race.

Paul Gorey has handed over the race director reins to Paul Richardson who did a fine job on organising the race. Nice to see the typical good weather continuing for this summer evening race.

Peter Somba was first home in a time of 24:59, with George Snee 4th in 25:53 ahead of Aaron Farrell in 5th.

Jane Cahill was first woman home in 30:41 with Claire Ní Fhaircheallaigh 3rd in 31:12.

The Dunboyne runners picked up a clatter of prizes across the age categories.

On Friday evening, Peter Somba won the Ballyskenach Athletic Club 5k in a time of 15:12.

Elsewhere on Friday, Seán Bailey, Morgan McDonagh and Ray Mitchell ran the Bohermeen 5k. Seán was first in the M60 category with a super time of 18:40

On Saturday at the Dublin Graded Meeting in UCD, Michael Cornyn ran the paced mile in a time of 5:49. It was closed to 35 years since Michael ran at the old track in UCD, he was impressed with the recently upgraded track.

On Sunday morning in a very warm Cork, Ciara O’Neill, Emer Madden and Barry Comer ran the Cork Marathon, while Peter Somba ran the Half Marathon.

Peter finished second in the Half in 1:10:05 behind Ryan Creech of Leevale AC. Battling well through the heat, Ciara finished the marathon in 3:43:10. Emer, with Barry along as pacer, both finished in 3:49:25. That’s a 2 minute PB for Emer, bettering her time at the Amsterdam marathon last year.

In Dublin on Sunday June 4th, Carol Cullinane, Jane Bandila, Mairéad Hogan and Claire Ní Fhaircheallaigh ran the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon.

Carol has been passionately fundraising for Down Syndrome charities who have provided so much support for her son Jake. On Sunday Carol, Jane, Mairéad and Claire ran to support Miles for Smiles for people with Down Syndrome, Down Syndrome Centre (Dublin) and the Down Syndrome Louth Meath Branch. If you can, please support their fundraiser:

On Wednesday evening (May 24th) Peter Roche finished 1st in the IMRA Sugar Bowl (Sugar Loaf) race in a time of 36:37. Great running by Peter; a tough 7km with over 400m of climbing on very tricky rocky terrain.

Peter is a regular at these IMRA races, featuring towards the front more often than not.

On Thursday evening May 25th, Peter Somba was 1st in the Fethard AC 5K Race in 15:22, just a second ahead of local runner Evan Fitzgerald of Clonmel AC.

On the following Sunday at the Newry 10k there were some great results from the Dunboyne women:

Laura Buckley 2nd woman in 37:48, Eimear Marie English 4th in 40:06, Eva McNelis 6th in 40:50

Meanwhile at the Newry Half Marathon Ollie Duffy ran well to finish in 1:32:40.

On Sunday afternoon at the Culmullen 5 mile Run, there were 8 runners from Dunboyne AC out to enjoy the sunshine and the lovely route around the quiet country roads. It is great to see people supporting these local events, with this race fundraising for Culmullen National School.
