A good cohort of our senior and Fit4Life groups made the journey to Star of the Sea’s annual 5K race in the village of Stamullen, setting aside the usual Tuesday night training session in favour of a 5K run, not to mention cakes, and free massages!
On this sunny, but still chilly evening, Peter Somba continued his winning streak, coming through in first place, and leading the rest of our group to excellent times over the distance. Paddy Peters impressed again, finishing 14th in some very good company. Kevin Deery and Paul O’Donnell both achieved sub 20 times, with Scott Willoughby finishing close behind, wondering all the while where Alan McKernan, brother of the race director, could possibly be. Very strange cos he was on a Senior recruitment drive for this one.
Representing Fit4Life we had Ana Quigley, Angela Egan and Lyndon Thomas; we think this probably went without saying. Lyndon was chief Fit4Life ringleader and persuaded training buddies Catherine Boughton and Ruth O’Neill to make the trip, before preying on our recent C25K graduates Nicole McDermott and Tara Donnelly. All they remember is they joined a Facebook messaging group, and then they were registered for this 5K race, and quite possibly a few more. All recorded superb times on a hilly-enough course, which may explain the notable absentee member refererred to above.
Thanks to Star of the Sea for putting on an excellent event and by all accounts a fantastic spread of refreshments. We hope to be back in even greater numbers next year. Meanwhile, we’ll catch up with Gary O’Hanlon’s Star of the Sea trainees at our Clonee 10K on Thursday 30th June and we’ll show them how to put training to proper use !!!
Well done to all our runners on these great times below.
