Last weekend Dunboyne AC was represented by 9 amazing club members in the famous Berlin Marathon. While Kenyan star Eliud Kipchoge and some other stars of world marathon running were attempting to set a new world record, the main focus from this part of the world was on our own stars running in club colours and putting those months of training into action.
Ciara Devitt, Alan McKiernan, Kevin Clancy, Donal Cashin, Warren McIntyre, John Meegan, Marianne Quinn, Catherine Quinn and Mark McDonald all lined up with their own targets and records to set. And each one of them put in amazing performances on a difficult day with very high humidity throughout.
Ciara Devitt delivered a fantastic 3:40 run battling the humidity throughout and gritting it out right to the end after taking on a bit too much water earlier in the race.
Mark McDonald bettered his previous best time by an unbelievable 17 minutes to clock a 3:39 time after a really strong performance.
John Meegan raced around the course in a super time of 3:17 after a very impressive run on the day.
Sisters Marianne and Catherine Quinn were also on club duty and both ran fantastic races with Marianne stopping the clock at 3:44 after a super run while Catherine also ran brilliantly coming home in 4:17.
Warren McIntyre went Sub 3…..motoring to a brilliant 2:59 – talk about perfect race management! That run being more impressive coming after being sick for the last couple of weeks and on antibiotics. I’ll have what he’s having!
Alan McKiernan delivered a monster run, knocking a further 3 mins off his PB by stopping the clock at 2:46. Is there no stopping this guy!
And what a performance from Kevin Clancy and Donal Cashin who ran together (I think they did a three legged race) and came in nicely under 3 hours with a time of 2:57. Professional pacing by Donal, who is also available for Weddings, Christenings and Bar Mitzvahs
Long-time friend of Dunboyne AC and coach, Gary O’Hanlon, also ran a mind blowing 2:19 on the day after delivering yet another serious performance.
What a group of athletes we have and it was fabulous to see all the hard work, sacrifice and dedication they have put into their running for the past number months paying off on the big day. Well done to you all. The times were amazing but their celebrations that night in Berlin were almost as legendary as the performances on the road by all accounts. I’m sure we will hear more about that in due course.
Well done all you did the club proud.
