A glorious Tuesday night brought out not only the sunshine but 24 Dunboyne participants for our annual trip to Enfield for the Bob Heffernan 5k.
The Ladies team comprising of Jane, Emilia & Claire took team gold in a very strong and competitive field which saw over 200 participants of the 519 runners going sub 20 minutes. Jane came 4th overall after coming second in Maynooth 10K on Sunday. Our men’s team of Peter, Donal & Phelim came 4th out of 70 which was very impressive and only narrowly missed out on a podium.
Peter Somba placed second in an impressive sub 15 minutes while Emilia and Phelim both won their age categories. This was Phelim’s first race in many months following a long layoff.
It was great to see him back on the roads and running so well.
There were many with PB’s including Donal, Alan, Jim, Mark, Norma and John Meegan. A special mention goes to John who dipped under the very impressive 19 minutes for the first time. John takes another positive plunge as he marries Brid on Saturday week. Bríd herself showing great form to manage 23 minutes while in the throes of planning for a wedding. We wish them both all the best on their great and glorious day. We look forward to seeing this running couple at the track after the honeymoon when they get back on their feet. We also look forward to pictures of ‘Sister Sarah’s’ outfit and hat – she has promised to try to get a picture without a Prosecco in her hand, but we do not hold out too much hope and find it unfair to place this unrealistic pressure upon her.
Congrats to Jane, Mark, Ray and Mo Chara Michael who ran their second race in three days following their 10K exploits in Maynooth on Sunday in addition to Jim who ran 17:39 which was a 1 minute PB. Well done to Ciara Devitt and Norma Farrell who came home neck and neck – this was Norma’s first time making this race in 3 years following her injuries and stint in ‘The Priory’ and it was great to see her back injury free and clean, we think it was a PB too! Speaking of which, it was nice to see Kevin there too, who literally got physio repaired by Rory O’Neill on the day to make the race, with the negative being that due to his presence in Enfield two of the local pubs nearly closed down. The good news is Kevin will be back in the village tonight.
Fit 4 Life were represented by the super Angela, Carmen and Nicola who ran great races. This was a short race for them as they start to build up for the longer summer races which are on their radars. A special thanks goes to the main men Lyndon and John O’Malley, who are on the injured list, for their support and cheers when our runners needed it in the last stretch of the race and to Roisín Lineen who was also on hand for great support with her trusty camera.
Well done to all and we look forward to seeing even more at this Tuesday’s BHAA 5 mile race hosted by our own Paul Gorey which finishes on our track.
