***Dynamic Duo at Donadea 50K Championship, Saturday 13th February 2016*****

The beautiful surrounds of Donadea Forest Park in Co. Kildare was the venue for the Annual Dondea 50KM race on the 13th February 2016.  The race, in its 7th year, attracts some of the biggest names in the world of ultra running, including coach Gary O’Hanlon and our very own Mick Foy and Caroline Reid. The park offers the perfect location for th 50KM championship event. The race is run on a 5k route, 10 laps making up the 50km, which allows the entrants to make use of the feed tables, water stations and portaloos as well as take advantage of the primary cheering zone near the café.

Gary returned to defend his title and won the race setting a new course record in the process of 2:56:51. Our ultra running duo, Caroline and Mick put in sterling performances on the day, Caroline finished 4th lady overall in 4:23:14, a fantastic result Caroline! And Mick was hot on her heels in 4:32:29. Anyone who was there on the day will know the race is as much a mental battle as a physical one.  Well done to all and congrats to Gary on another 50k championship win. Thanks to all the club members who travelled down on the day to cheer and support.

Photos of the day can be found here with thanks to Peter Mooney and Annemarie Sheehan for these.
