Fit for Life – Rock ‘n Roll and more

Last weekend was a busy one again for Fit for Life, with a number of members opting to do not one, but two races over the course of 3 days.
Angela Egan got the weekend off to a perfect start on Friday evening, running in the Streets of Athboy 5k and taking 1st place in her category, another great achievement!
The Rock ‘n Roll 5k took place in the Phoenix Park on Saturday morning, with Ana Quigley, Audrey Keane, Carmen Carroll, Deirdre Brady, Hilary Madden, Sinéad Webb and Vivienne Lennon all taking part.
The Rock ‘n Roll theme continued into Sunday, and it was an early start for those taking part in both the 10k and half marathon events. It was a perfect morning, with both races leaving from outside the 3 Arena and heading for the Phoenix Park. There was loads of support en route, from tourists leaving their hotels to the sharp witty comments from Dubliners and even the Dunboyne Scouts on the water station at mile 2. Carmen Carroll, Jan Rice and Oriel Tiernan took part in the 10k and yes, Jan, you were caught on camera enjoying the build up at the start line!
The half marathon is a tough course, who knew there were so many hills between the 3 Arena and the finish line on Chesterfield Avenue?! Again, the support and encouragement of fellow club members along the route was really appreciated. First Fit for Lifer home was Jackie Branigan in a fantastic time of 1.51.22. Well done to Ann Ryan and Audrey Keane on their first half marathon and great results on a challenging course. Well done also to Sam Hamilton on a massive pb of almost 17 mins over the distance. Her secret …just really enjoying running!
As with all events, it couldn’t happen without the volunteers and huge thanks has to go club mates who looked after the baggage trucks all morning, helped at the start line and distributed teeshirts after the race. Thanks also to Claire Clifford for the great pictures.
