Despite the overall field almost doubling in size since last year, our Fit4Life turnout actually reduced from 40 to just 30 this year. It’s a pity to see a low turnout at our own club race, particularly as relatively few were required to step out to volunteer at this one. We were even outdone by our Senior clubmates. The horror J. Hopefully it’s just the effect of holiday season and we’ll see the masses out at our Inaugural 6K Carton House Trail Run on Thursday 28th July, enjoying the home cheers, supporting our own club and putting those “pesky Seniors”(as reformed Senior Geoff Hamilton now calls them) back in their place. Geoff, we’re counting on you to lead the battle cry at Carton! You’re the bravest man we know!
Needless to say, those who did tog out excelled themselves on an evening that was largely favourable to runners; cool and dry, albeit a little windy at times. Recent joiner Sam Anshasi was first home for Fit4Life in a superb time of 44.51. Well done Sam! Lauren Flood led the charge for the Fit4Life women, as she so often does, clocking a tremendous time of 52.16, good enough to secure a place on the podium, as she placed 2nd in her category. Siobhan Campbell continued her recent fine form, finishing hot on Lauren’s heels in a time of 52.38, placing 4th in her category.
Unsurprisingly, Angela Envelope, queen of the podium, won her age category again. We’ve become so blasé about Angela’s wins, she could only surprise us at this stage, if she dropped out of a race. We also had a number of Top 10 category finishes from among our talented Fit4Life crew; Annette Finlay 3rd, (just one place outside the prizes, unfortunately), Fiona Dillon 6th, Ger Ryan 8th, Lyndon Thomas 7th, Pat Ryan 4th, Patricia Gallagher 10th and Pauline Singleton 7th.
The performances of the night came from our 2016 Couch to 5K graduates who have gone from strength to strength in such a short space of time. Special congratulations to Emma Dwyer, Kate Quirke, Lorraine Murphy, Marie McQuaid and Fiona Dillon, also a newcomer to our Fit4Life group, on their superb runs. Not a bother to any of you!
All Fit4Life members ran superbly on the night, as Fit4Lifers always do, but above all else, it’s about getting out there and participating and enjoying the experience. Well done to all who took part, and kudos to those who selflessly gave up their medals when we realised the large on-the-night-entry had caught us a little unawares. We’ll get your hard earned medals to you at training ASAP.
Sincere thanks to the Fit4Lifers and all our fellow club members who stewarded, catered, manned car parks and supported on the night. Well done to Race Director, Tommy McDonnell, chairperson Teresa Smith and the entire race team on a very successful race. Finally, special thanks to Claire Clifford who combined supporting with being official race photographer. If you missed them in our official race report posted last week, you can see there here.
