Midsummer soaring temperatures did not stop Fit for Life members from getting out and running this month so far,
The Women’s’ Mini Marathon took place on Bank Holiday Monday and a number of members took to the streets of Dublin to complete the 10k route, some for the first time. This year the course was run in reverse, heading out through Donnybrook. It was the perfect day for running, dull and mild and the rain managed to hold off until most passed the finish line.
Angela Egan and Lyndon Thomas represented Fit for Life at the Patrick Bell 5k in Bohermeen on Saturday 10th June. Well done to Angel who came 2nd in her category.
The past weekend was a very busy one as regards running. Dan and Michelle Higgins took part in the Dublin Pride 5k in the Phoenix Park on Friday evening. Meanwhile Ana Quigley, Noel Leddy and Sam and Geoff Hamilton were in Trim for the annual Braveheart 5k trail race. It was a lovely summer’s evening for both events.
The Irish Runner 5 Mile race was held in the Phoenix Park on Saturday morning under clear blue skies and in soaring temperatures. This is a very popular distance with Fit for Life members, however the heat and lack of shade along the course made for a challenging one. That said, there were a number of pbs. Congratulations and well done particularly to those that made their debut at this distance in very tough conditions.
Another day, another race … or 2! Vivienne Lennon, Declan Collins, Janet Lowthe, Deirdre Brady and Lyndon Thomas headed out on another sun-soaked morning to run the Castleknock 5k. Yet more PBs for Fit for Life, well done!
Finally credit has to go to Noel Leddy who headed to Maynooth on Sunday afternoon to take part in the PWS 5k in the grounds of the south campus. 3 races in 3 days in record temperatures, impressive running Noel!
