Our Senior Athletes in action at the National 10k Road Race Championships / Great Ireland Run
Our Seniors went in chase of medals rather than PBs on the challenging Phoenix Park course last Sunday and they came back with many.
Leading the ladies charge as always was Emilia, winning her category by a margin of minutes. She’d rostered Clodagh and Ciara for an assault on the Masters category team prize feeling a good performance from the trio could be enough to win them a National medal. Despite 37 teams in the competition her calculations proved correct and the ladies ran hard to win themselves a bronze medal in this prestigious and competitive event.
If Emilia has a male equivalent in the Club it would have to be Phelim. Phelim produced a storming run, the second fastest in his category to Inisowen’s Pauric McKinney. The medal table has yet to be updated but we’re hoping to see Phelim awarded silver when the provisional results are finalised.
Both Stephen Griffin and Paul Lord race this event annually and both had strong performances this year also, despite the added wind which made the race particularly difficult on this occasion.
Well done to all!
