Rathcoffey 10K, Saturday 6th February 2016

(With thanks to Rob Webb, our Club Registrar, for this report)

 Based on last year’s reports of a ‘super spread’ 3 hardy athletes set off for the hospitality of Rathcoffey GAA club and a small matter of a 10K. If we were to believe the weather forecasts we would have all rolled over and hit snooze.

 First thing I noticed was the organisation, car park well marshalled, registration lines short and in essence clockwork.

 So off we went to the start, ‘fresh’ but dry and even a hint of sunshine. Race kicked off on time and started off through the village and soon out onto country roads, again plenty of marshals as the road was still partially open to traffic. We were soon off the main road ( if you can call it that ) and onto farmers’ lanes and onto the waters stations – again doing it right, kids size water bottles and tops off.

 Now here’s the only thing Rathcoffey got wrong. At about 7km a long drag of a hill which gets steeper at the end guess what…… the photographer, I am sure he caught walkers and plenty of ruby red faces. Maybe it was just a ploy to make us run up the hill.

 Soon up to the finish, medals, protein milk and bananas to get you started and then inside for a really good selection of sandwiches, lovely hot veg soup finished off with tea and biscuits.

 A great run for the calendar and a shame it clashed with Trim 10 mile as it’s well worth a look a look for both the run and the hospitality in 2017.

 And finally the 3 runners who all posted great times for February are;

 Jan Rice                                1:05:08

Rob Webb                           0:58:05

Teresa O’Reilly                  0:55:45
