Upon hearing that Rory Kavanagh, our reigning King of Tara, wasn’t going to defend his title this year, 4 pretenders high-tailed it to Tara, determined to steal his crown in Tara AC’s 5K.
Senior member and 2016 newcomer, Carl Harrington, fast becoming a regular on the racing circuit, clinched 9th place in his category, in a great time of 21.38.
Our Fit4Life trio were in hot pursuit, so much so that they too claimed Top 10 finishes in their respective categories. Pat Ryan, one of our more prolific racers had another excellent outing, finishing 8th in his category in 22.40.
Pat’s fabulous wife Ger was fabulous as ever as she matched his exploits, also claiming 8th place in an excellent time of 27.48. Valiant attempts by all 3 to bring a crown back to Dunboyne AC, and didn’t they come close!
Our final hope rested with Patricia Gallagher, who like Ger, is one of our original Fit4Life members. She knew she’d have to dig deep and she certainly did. She beat the half-hour to finish in 29.54 and in doing so, beat off the other pretenders in her age category to claim first place for the first time ever! Yay!!!! Well done Trish, we’re absolutely delighted for you and a Tara crown was brought back to Dunboyne AC after all! Yup, the vintage crew have still got it, and we’re all claiming this one with you Trish!
Congrats to all 4 of you on super running, supporting our fellow Meath club and thanks to Tara AC for a great event. The gang were so modest, they didn’t even get a photo. Here’s one of Ger and Trish earlier this year at the 1916 run with Kay Gilmartin in centre. We’ll get a new photo on Tuesday evening of all our weekend warriors at Tara and the Pink Run.
