All three Irish female Steeplechasers are through from this afternoon’s heats to the final of the event due to take place on Sunday.
In the first heat Leevale athlete Michelle Finn set things off positively with a fine seasons best time to clinch the last automatic qualifying place, in a heat where which was won by one of the overall medal favourites Gesa Krause of Germany.
Dunboyne’s Sara Treacy and Kerry O’Flaherty we up in heat two of two and both managed to do so, Sara, with a PB time of 9:42:16, looking very comfortable in the process which suggests there’s more there, both on Sunday, and come the Olympics. She took one of the automatic qualifier spots whilst Kerry O’Flaherty went through in a fastest runner-up spot.
All eyes will now be on the final on Sunday at 3:30pm Irish time.
