The Club had over forty participants in the Dublin Half last Saturday, which is most likely a record for us at this distance.
The day itself will unfortunately be overshadowed by the tragic and sad passing of a fellow runner. We’d like to offer our condolences to the young man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
With regard to Senior performances on the day Derek Finnegan led our crew home in his first year with the Club in a fast 1:20:34. Owen Fletcher has been laid up with an injury for quite a bit of the past month, making a return to action at the Achill Roar recently. He’d a solid 1:24:25 run on Saturday. Suzanne Sheehy had a phenomenal 1:29:26 trip which put her in 5th in her highly competitive category.
Kevin Clancy was just 7 seconds the other side of 90 mins with a super performance, 1:30:07. Cian Mangan followed up his Dingle Half with Dublin, a less arduous course by quite a bit. We haven’t your time Cian, you might let us know how you went. Another who we can’t source a time for is Paul Gorey, we think this is the first Half Paul has done this year and we’re delighted to see him back at it again.
Stephen Doyle had a really good run and will be pleased with his 1:32:38. John O’Malley broke his 1:40 target and is on route to a good marathon next month. Garbhan Blake, another relative newbie to us went well with a 1:42:12.
Geoff Hamilton, without Paul Lord to chase in this particular race, still managed a solid 1:44:09 run. Tom Scanlon was just behind Geoff with his 1:45:40. Noel Duffy yet again was well up in his category on Saturday, 2:00:56 on the day.
