Seniors at the Great Ireland Run / National 10k Championships – National Success for Dunboyne AC
Last Sunday, April 9th saw the 2017 running of the Great Ireland Run which doubled up as the National 10k Championships, in the Phoenix Park. On a perfect day for running, the Dunboyne AC Seniors were out in force and well to the fore throughout.
Jane Bandila continued her great form with a storming run of 39:04 which gave her a fantastic 8th place in the ultra-competitive senior women’s category of the National 10K Championship. A great run from Jane who continues to deliver time and time again.
Ladies Captain Emilia Dan ran a brilliant 40:29 to comfortably claim a National 10K Championship Silver medal. This was great running from Emilia and we congratulate her on winning her national medal.
Clodagh Dunphy ran a cracking 42:19 to finish 6th in her category in the National 10k Championships. That was great running from Clodagh in her very strong category again showing consistency of performance
Phelim Glynn was Dunboyne’s other national medal winner on the day. An impressive run of 34:31 earned Phelim a National 10k Championship silver medal. A super performance from Phelim and we congratulate him on his national medal.
Recent Irish International Duathlon call up, Niall Cornyn finished 34th in the senior men’s category of the national 10k, with his impressive 34:59 run, where the first 3 places were filled with Irish international athletes.
Lewis McCann ran a very strong 38:02 to finish in the top 30 in his category of the National 10k Championships. This was over 1 minute quicker than his recent Bohermeen run, on what is a much tougher course. There’s certainly more to come from Lewis in the future.
Jim Lineen stopped the clock at 41:17 which was enough to earn 26th place in the National 10K Championship in his category. Strong running again here from Jim.
Geoff Hamilton ran 48:04 to claim 23rd in his category of the National 10K Championships with his determined run.
The men’s team of Phelim, Lewis and Jim were a very creditable 9th in a field of 24 teams in the National 10k Team event. Great running lads and well done on a really positive team performance.
Team performance of the day, however, goes to the women’s Senior team of Jane, Emilia and Clodagh who were literally pipped for a national bronze medal, finishing an agonising 4th place in the hugely competitive senior women’s competition. 4th team in Ireland is a phenomenal result and when it emerged that the difference between Bronze and 4th was a mere 38 seconds it showed what a great performance the ladies put in. Congratulations to you all on a fantastic run.
In the Great Ireland run itself Dunboyne AC Seniors had some other runners in sparkling form. Gerard Martin ran a scorching 36:06. Super running from Gerard and we look forward to many more performances like that in club colours. Alan Doyle ran a very impressive 43:26, while David Dolan ran a strong 50:21 and Cliona Larkin ran an eye catching 50:50.
Well done to all our runners who represented our club so well last Sunday.
