Seniors in action at the Clonee 10k, 30th June 2016

We’d 32 seniors in action last Thursday night at our 2nd annual Clonee 10k Road Race, a good number by our normal standards. This race was coming at the end of a six week 10k programme, and Tony, Tommy and Gary were all for everyone doing this one. It was lovely to see so much blue and white on the night. Let’s hope it keeps up as the marathon season commences soon.

Onto the performances, well, of course we’d the winner, Peter! Not taking any chances, he shook off his challengers earlier rather than sitting and kicking to finish in 31 flat. Peter had won the Kilcock 5k the previous Friday, and in that too was Morgan McDonagh with a strong run. He followed up that performance with an equally good run of 35:05, over a distance he’s not too accustomed to. Making up the team that won honours on the night was Donal Cashin, flying in at 35:55.

Owen Fletcher and Alan were just over the 36 min mark, Alan running a significant 50 second PB on the night, 36:11 and 36:16 were their respective times.

Only two seconds separated Gerry O’Reilly and returning Derek Finegan, 36:58 and 37:00, Gerry admittedly having an off night, having run a phenomenal Dunshaughlin 10k.

Dunboyne based Catriona Mullen of Shercock AC was first lady home in 37:23, and she looked like she was cruising.

Paul Hanaphy ran a fine solo effort with a time of 38:10.

Emilia and Laura traded places on the course on more than one occasion, with Emilia just pipping Laura into second place overall, with Laura in 3rd, both with fantastic runs, 39:00 and 39:05 respectively.

Mick Foy showed it’s the Hammer’s year, with clearly no hammer issues this year, 40:27 on what wasn’t an ideal night for running. He’d 12 seconds on Cian Mangan in 40:39 and 22 on Paul O’Donnell, who ran 40:49.

Mr. Consistency Fintan Crehan ran a 41:51. Clodagh Dunphy followed Fintan with an equal PB, 42:30 and making up the winning ladies team (pictured).

Michael Cornyn has been focusing on the longer distances of late, and on Thursday he’d another strong run in 43:08, placing 3rd in his category.

Catriona Conneely was our 4th lady home in 43:38. Alan Doyle has impressed following an early season marathon, and continues to do so, he ran 44:09.

Michael O’Baille, Ray Mitchell and Paul Gorey can rarely be separated by much over this distance, and so it was again with the trio running 44:46, 45:57 and 46:48 respectively. Also in the mix with them at those times were Aoiffe Kerrigan, with a time of 46:47 and Ian Kennedy, with a time of 46:53.

7 seconds separated Michael Lawlor, Gerard Plante and Carl Harrington with times of 47;34, 47:36 and 47:41.

Ciara O’Neill looked to be on pacing duty for Annette Conroy, a PB attempt, possibly sub 50 Annette? If it was you smashed that goal with a time of 48:16. Not long behind Annette was John Holian, getting more running in this year than last, with a time of 48:45. Paul Lord was 11 seconds further back in 48:56.

Heather Harold placed 5th in her category with a 49:17 and Tom Scanlon got 10k in with a 49:46. The guys were followed in by Anne Gorman in 61:01.

Well done to everyone, from all sections of the Club, who ran, helped out, cheers on and all besides.

A fantastic night for Dunboyne AC.
