Silverware for Thomas Thornton and Jack Nyhan at the Leinster Indoor Championships
On Saturday 25th February while the relays were on the track, Dunboyne AC has two extremely talented Under 18 athletes competing at the Leinster Championships in their events.
Thomas Thornton was representing Dunboyne AC in the Triple Jump and Jack Nyhan was competing in the Shot Put.
Jack was recovering from a virus which had laid him low for the past week or so but showed no ill effects by throwing a massive throw in his warm up. That throw, if part of the competition, would have been a European qualification standard. In the competition itself Jack struggled with his technique and after 2 fouls had to throw a standing throw to get a score on the board. Such is his talent that he still did enough to earn a bronze medal but we know there is a lot more to come from this extremely talented athlete.
Thomas Thornton will be receiving a gift of an alarm clock from the club after arriving late for his event and joining it only after the first 2 rounds were completed. Despite having no warm up and only doing his first piece of Triple Jump training this season last Tuesday, he still jumped to a silver medal. We can only imagine what the result could have been, but Thomas once again proved what a talent he is. The collection for his alarm clock will commence at next week’s training session !!
