Dunboyne AC were celebrating double success at the Meath Novice Cross Country Championships held on Sunday1st October at Fr Murphy’s AC in Athboy.
The Dunboyne AC senior athletes had a tough act to follow after the large medal haul plundered by their juvenile club mates who had excelled in the thrilling championship races prior to the adult contests.
In the women’s race, Claire Ni Fhearcallaigh raced positively from the gun and battled through the 4k course to claim a richly deserved Bronze medal. A great run from Claire.
All the Dunboyne AC women’s team ran well on the day. The team, which was made up of Carol Cullinane, Norma Farrell, Clodagh Dunphy and Claire Ni Fhearcallaigh claimed a fantastic Gold medal and a great six points lead over the competition. Well done ladies on a great Championship victory.
The pressure was now on the men to deliver and they proved up to the task. Niall Cornyn showed great strength over the 6k distance to come home in an impressive Silver medal position. Great running from Niall.
Niall was ably supported by a strong Dunboyne AC team made up of Derek Finegan, Ger Solan, Morgan McDonagh, Paddy Peters, Keith Eglington and Gerry O’Reilly. Good performances on the day meant they matched the ladies performance by also claiming a fantastic Gold medal in a tight team competition with Trim AC a very close second. Well done lads.
So a very successful day for Dunboyne AC on Sunday with Senior, Fit for Youth and Juvenile sections all having tremendous success at County Championship level.
Next up is the Meath Uneven Ages and Masters Cross Country Championships on Sunday 8th October in Greenanstown. Heres hoping for another successful day for our club.
