Today (5th January), I was allowed to compete as a Guest at the Kilkenny County Championships at the AIT.
First up was the Shot Putt with a good field of Master Throwers. My first throw of 6.46m was a not great starter as the circle was slippy to start with. As I settled into my competition routine and the other competitors hot on my tail, my second throw of 7.01m cemented my pre-Christmas competition at The Baseline Meet which I threw a best of 7.12m. With the other competitors still hot on my tail after their second round, I knew that I’d have to pull one out of the bag in the third and last round. So into the circle I went, relaxed and quietly confident, I threw a Seasons Best of 7.41m which I was very happy with.
Overall, I placed second but as I was a guest I placed first against a good field of guest throwers.
Later in the day, I’d the Weight for Distance which I hadn’t trained for since before Christmas. The Weight for Distance was passed at Congress last summer which allowed Women to compete at National Level for the first time in Irish History.
With a few Master Women Athletes never competing in this event, it was hard to judge what the competition was going to be like. So I just had concentrate on getting a good set of throws. My first throw of 4.61m was a good start. My second throw was of a similar distance and my third throw was a tiring throw of 4.13m.
Overall, I placed first but as I was a guest I placed first against a good field of guest throwers.
