Ben Smyth, son of Niall Smyth and Orielle Foster from Dunboyne, was diagnosed with a severe immune deficiency in May 2015. He spent 9 weeks in Crumlin Childrens Hospital with pneumonia, which developed from a common flu virus.
After some follow up appointments with consultants in paediatric immunology and infectious diseases in both Ireland and the UK it became apparent that Ben would need a Bone Marrow Transplant. The particular transplant that Ben required is only performed in the UK. Ben has begun his treatment, and Orielle and Niall are blogging on his journey. It’s quite a touching story, as you’ll see if you take the time to read about what all three have gone through in the past three weeks. Click HERE for the link.
We would like to encourage members to read, and support Ben. There are a number of events on, including a ‘wheelbarrow race’ and ‘fun-walk’ on Easter Saturday and there is a sponsorship card for this event on the Clubhouse door. If you can put your name on the card and support, please do.
