Dunboyne AC had three young athletes in action at the 2016 Tailltean Games which were the curtain raiser for the All Ireland Senior Track and Field Championship at the Morton Stadium, Santry Track on Saturday the 25th of June. These games are inter provincial competition which act as trials for the Irish Schools Track and Field team who will be in action in England in July, with the top two in each event in this under 17 selected for international duty.
Jack Nyhan was first up from club in the Leinster colours ( three per province in each event) when he entered the circle in the shot putt competition. Jack who is coming back into form had a decent day finishing a very respectful fourth just off the podium.
Thomas Thornton was just getting the feel for the run up up in his triple jump competition when he had two pull out with a heel injury having getting a 12 meter plus in his first jump before disaster struck. There is no doubt had he got his six jumps he would have being a contender in his favourite discipline. We wish him a speedy recovery, hoping he is back for the upcoming All Irelands.
Last out in this quality competition was Evan Mitchell who was in action in the hammer competition. Such was the strength of these athletes, that for safety reasons they held the competition in the stadium’s outer throwing area. Evan was in great form, not only coming back to the Royal County with a PB of 48m plus, but he also earned himself a bronze medal in the process and would be next in line for a green vest should any of the qualifying athletes pick up a niggle.
Well done boys, this is the first time in many a year that Dunboyne AC had three athletes in action in this prestigious competition.
