Top performances and a Top Spot at Fingal 10K, Swords, Sunday 24th July 2016
The Fingal 10K got underway in Swords on Sunday as a massive entry of 2,969 lined up for Race 2 of the Dublin Marathon Race Series.
Stephen Douglas led the charge for the club. Having made the trip home from Manchester, he was rewarded with a massive PB and a super finishing time of 37.32, 85th finisher in a huge, top class field. Well done Stephen, worth the trip??? Alan Doyle, Garbhan Blake and John O’Malley have been racing regularly and strongly of late and all 3 acquitted themselves admirably in Swords with superb times. Congrats lads, all the hard work is paying off!
Fit4Life were out in force as always, proudly represented by Aoife Hyland, Claire Clifford, Lauren Flood, Lorraine Murphy, Noel Leddy, Olywen Read, Pat Ryan, Rob Webb, Sinead Webb and Stephen O’Beirne. All ran super times as you’ll see below with many PB’s recorded. Claire Clifford clocked a four and a half minute PB, having limped away from Thursday’s training session, feeling disheartened that a recurring injury was threatening to return. Oh the thrills and spills of running, eh Claire! Our Fit4Life runners are going from strength to strength with excellent coaching from Paul and Gary and equal parts solid advice and utter nonsense from Daddy and Daddy, Alan and Mick, who have been inspiring this lot to Believe and Achieve! – and they are doing just that.
On a day of great achievements all round, top honours went to Fit4Life’s Lauren Flood. Not only did she lead the Dunboyne ladies home, not only did she go Sub-50 yet again clocking a sublime 49.36 on a tough course, just 6 seconds outside her Maynooth 10K PB, she WON her age category and won it emphatically; second and third weren’t even close to our great lady. This is not the first time Lauren has claimed a category podium finish, and her Meath Championship medal collection is growing at a pace, but to win in the Dublin Marathon Race Series, in a huge field of 2,969 entrants, including the cream of the cream of Irish athletics, is simply OUTSTANDING. Take a bow Lauren, on a magnificent achievement. Well done and well deserved!
Congratulations to everyone who donned the blue and white. Wear your Fingal 10K race t-shirts with pride to training on Tuesday. Race Series T-shirt photos at 8.10pm are a club tradition at this stage. Thanks so much to the supporters en route, especially Dunboyne Scouts for the much needed water and encouraging shout-outs. So who’s up for Race 3 of the Race Series; the Frank Duffy 10 miler?
