What every runner should know about DOMS

DOMS can affect us all in different ways but what are they?

The know it all

Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is the pain and stiffness felt in muscles after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise. DOMS are usually noticed 6-8 hours after a workout and are said to peak 48 hours after exercise (although there is wide variability- for many beginners, DOMS remain at a peak level 72-96 hours after exercise). As one repeats a certain movement or load, DOMS response reduces significantly or can disappear altogether.  Fascinating science behind it…..

Sorry, gotta go, just realised I’ve left the iron plugged in.

The brand new DA’Camper

One day later: Are these the DOMS setting in or have I injured every muscle in my body?

Two days later: OMG ouch, ouch. Someone help me put on my coat!

The beer swilling pub bore

…….exercise is dangerous….if God had meant for me to…..knew a fella who died from the DOMS…sure I get enough exercise here flexing me arm…..down the hatch!

Now the problem with this country and DOMS is ………..

You can let me out here, thanks. I’ll easily walk the last 10 miles.

The week 2 DA’Camper

1 minute later: I’m going to jog a lap or 2 to ward off the DOMS and flush the lactate out.

Two days later: The DOMS are way better this week. It only hurts when I laugh.

The tosser

Gotta love the DOMS for weeding out the weak and thinning the herd. Form a queue ladies!

No pain, no gain #doms

The week 3 DA’Camper

I must be getting fitter and stronger. Hardly feel the DOMS anymore.

DOMS a mate of mine from Baldoyle. He can’t do a Sub 3 Marathon. I’m better than Dom!

This is Bill.

Bill does DA’Camp and used to get the DOMS.

Bill persisted and now he’s ripped.

Bill is smart.

Be like Bill.
