*******Women’s Meet & Train, Dunboyne Cow Park Sunday 21st February****

Sunday saw the 3rd race of the Meet & Train series which was hosted by Dunboyne AC in our very own Cow Park. Wind and heavy rain over the weekend meant this would be a true cross country race.  There was no let up in the weather on the morning of the race but this did not deter our fearless teams, who turned up togged out and ready to do battle on home ground.

From the off Dunboyne AC’s Laura Buckley led the field of 100 or so women, conditions were tough with mud aplenty and little grip underfoot.  Laura held her ground for the entire 2 ½ laps, never letting her nearest opponent gain advantage and the look of determination on her face throughout told spectators she was not planning to cede her place. In fine style Laura crossed the finish line in first place to rapturous applause.

Next over line, having fought equally hard to fend of the opposition were Ciara Devitt in 5th place and Norma Farrell in 8th, the girls worked hard throughout the race despite being surrounded by competitors eager to pass them both, the A team continued their assault with Maeve Dunne & Emily Ryan hot on their heels in 30th and 44th respectively.  Fantastic achievements all round.

The club’s B team had an equally hard fought battle through the same tough conditions but the girls did us proud with their performances on the day. Leading the B team home was Mirela in 45th place followed swiftly by Annette Conry in 47th,  Eileen Soraghan in 76th and Rosemary Higgins in 89th.  Well done to each one of you.

Action shots from the day can be found here and here with special thanks to our two photographers on the day Claire Clifford and Sam Hamilton. Our web photo gallery is also here

Thanks to those who came out to support, it was great to see so many fellow club members there on the day to cheer the girls home.

The final race of the series takes place next Sunday at Brothers Pearse all support is welcome on the day.
