Women’s Meet & Train, Race 3 of Winter League, Griffeen Park, Lucan, Sunday 22nd January 2017
Lucan Harriers were our gracious hosts for the third Women’s Meet & Train race of the Winter League that saw a record field of 144 tog out. The weather was rather cold, but it was still and dry, conditions underfoot were pretty good and the double loop of Griffeen Park was largely flat but for a short steep climb through a wooded section. All in all, we had little cause for complaint about the conditions.
Once again, we were successful in fielding 2 full teams of 4, which meant every score would count. Team A were represented by Jane who claimed 1st place for the second time in her 2 races of the league, Carol who battled hard to clinch 3rd, Heather finishing in 61st position and Mirela in 86th. Team B were led home by Emily in 48th place, with Maeve hot on her heels in 51st, Annette in 66th and Annemarie in 106th. Claire NiFhaircheallaigh, just back from her maternity leave, entered this race as an individual and finished a very impressive 20th. Ger Fagan also ran as an individual, finishing in 133rd position.
The 4th and final race will be in Swords on Sunday 5th February, which is the same day as the Trim 10-miler. The best 3 out of 4 races will count for each team. It is difficult to gauge standings after race 3, as some teams only have 2 races in hand. Of those with 3 races in hand, our A team is currently 3rd behind Clonliffe and Trim and our B team is currently 9th. There is usually a silver and bronze category in the league, so Team B is still in with a chance of a podium position. We don’t know as yet what category Team B falls into.
Sincere thanks to Captain Fantastic Emillia Dan, Pat Ryan and Jane’s family for their fantastic support on the day. It was much appreciated.
A very big thank you to our fantastic hosts Lucan Harriers AC for a very well organised event, a clearly marked course, excellent stewards who were also generous in their support all the way round the course, fabulous photographs and a delicious spread of home-bakes back in the clubhouse that puts us in mind of our own Dunboyne AC 4-miler coming up soon on Sunday 26th March.
